The activity of the research group which is led by Dr. Andreas Kaltzoglou focuses on the synthesis of new chemical compounds for the development of technological materials. This includes hybrid materials with organic and inorganic moieties that form bonds at the molecular level or at the nanoscale. The physicochemical properties are largely affected by the morphology of the materials, such as bulk solids, films or nanostructures. The group studies mainly semiconductors and the corresponding applications can be divided into the following categories:

  1. photovoltaic materials, which convert light into electricity,
  2. thermoelectric materials, which convert the temperature difference at their ends into electricity, and
  3. luminescent materials, e.g. light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that convert electricity into light.

All three categories may lead to modern devices of high practical interest.
