The research area aims to study in a systematic way the Byzantine space and culture. More specifically, all projects of the research area focus on the mapping, description, classification and interpretation of primary sources (written and visual records and material remains). Main research areas include historical geography, everyday life and social life, as well as Byzantine culture. The research area comprises the research programs: Historical Geography of the Greek World, Everyday and Social Life in Byzantium, as well as Byzantine Civilization which consists of six research projects.
