Glasses are among the oldest functional materials developed and used by mankind, with physicochemical properties depending strongly on their randomly nanostructured characteristics. Despite their lack of long-range order, glasses possess short- and medium-range order structures the manipulation of which provides effective tools for controlling their properties. The group addresses a variety of problems ranging from cutting-edge basic to more application-oriented research, producing new and important results. Building on the group's expertise and knowhow in the field of glasses and vibrational spectroscopy, this research direction involves work along the following areas.

  1. Nonlinear optical functionalities in oxide glasses
  2. Structure-bonding/property correlations in glasses
  3. Vibrational spectroscopy applications to selected science, technology and industrial engineering problems
